Has anybody played with or have access to some induction lamps - especially the low voltage (12/24) variate?

Could it be that we will be running these lamps in the future in our planted aquariums? Seems ideal for a low temprature application like an aquarium.

If power cost keeps climbing, will the aquarium of the future be connected to a solar panel and geyser?

looks interesting, depending on who stocks it, what the prices are, and the tiny problem of the kelvin range of operation though (upto 5k-6k) [IMG]

it looks like something to consider

Thanks for the explanation ferryman - does not seem that anybody has played with this as a light source ... I am going to see if can get my paws on a 40W 6 K unit and do a bit of an experiment - first need to find a ZA supplier.

Yeah i know, but you can see if they have the lights or not from their website, i just mentioned where they were for interest sake, saw it the other day on my way to rosebank. I know THE LIGHT SPOT stocks their stuff, they can probably order the bulbs if radiant has it

Sounds like a good option. remember that you need at least 6500 - 10 000 kelvin of lighting to enhance plant growth . If not it might mean you using loads of these lights and white reflectors. I have 6 x 8000 k fluorescents in my tank and I am still finding that I don't have enough lighting

The light spot is also the only place in Jhb west area that is prepared to order you less than a box quantity. They are a little more expensive that other suppliers.. but they are very fast in getting in special orders
