I always like the black background, have it on both my tanks.

Also tend to prefer black or frosted, but that background is pretty cool - the scape/ plants will likely hide the repeating pattern?

I prefer to use thin sheet plastic for backgrounds, to replace/remove as needed. And if its too glossy, just add frosted film (or a bit of waterpaper sanding) to the plastic itself.

Painting can be a hassle, more so to remove, and if one scratches the front panel then flipping it around is less of a job.

@Lowflyer7 i like your background, one of the nicest I’ve seen. It provided a nice backdrop to the plants & integrated well in your tank in the previous scape.
Plus it will hide the cables and curtains currently visible.

    Was thinking about that too.
I think I'm going to have to see if the photocopy shot could laminate with mat sheets for me.
Thanks. Are you talking about the old brick picture?

The heater and tidal take up minimal space. I might detach the heater and hide it behind the Tidal anyway, but the heater gets more flow from the inlet this way.

You could also put the heater pretty much horizontal, close to the substrate where it would be hidden by plants. But either way yes, make an effort to hide it as much as possible.
    Liking the background.

Something for me to consider when I do my scaping

Just need to find some inert rock and some spider wood.

I'm running Seachem Matrix and Seachem de-nitrate 250ml each in the Tidal. Should be enough bio media.

Man I’m excited for you
Can’t wait to see. Could you save some of the other plants with citric acid dio?

To be honest, I had so much Vallis I wouldn't know what to do with it. I am going to try the citric acid on the plants I kept though, because some of them still have hair algae attached.

The biggest problem I have when buying plants is that both LFS here don't have an extensive knowledge of plants. So when they label the plants, they write "Plants - R45" :( So I have to try and ID them myself and I'm terrible at identifying plants.

Yep when I started in the hobby the plants at fish stores here in CT were generally not labeled either, very frustrating.
There are many folks who can help you ID them if you post close ups.

Reading after 4 days with Stability and Prime dosing (no livestock) :

    NO3 - 10
    NO2 - 0
    GH - 8
    KH - 6
    PH - 7.6
    CL - 0

I don't have an ammonia test. PH will hopefully come down with the addition of driftwood.

Cool, ready to start adding some of the fish back!
And add another dose of Stability every time you add fish.

Can you raise the water level so that the water line is just about hidden by the canopy?
    Just looks nicer generally.

Unfortunately not. I know it looks better, but the HOB skimmer will be submersed then.

So, I took a few minutes this evening to plant and place my one piece of drift wood in my tank. I have planted my taller growing plants at the back with my pearl grass near the front. I have placed 3 Flourish root tabs in the sand about 20cm apart in a triangle formation. My Anubias is attached to the driftwood, although I worry that the light will be too bright for it where it is now. When the Vallis and the other plant near the back grow taller, hopefully they will create a bit of shade for it so I can move it.

The surface skimmer is in the centre as we had gale force winds here today and my tanks water surface was full of dust.

The root tabs are indicated by the orange dots. I am also looking for a medium sized plant to place in the blue area. Any ideas? Pictures with the scientific name would be great :)

Very nice .. so consider the flow of the HOB ... sometimes having plants bend in the flow is cool, almost like a river. So having more vaillis on the left than say the back creates a vallis wave ... When you plant look at the goal height of the plants.

    Later Ferdie

PS a vallis forest is great at hiding heaters ;-)
