Hi guys sorry I havent been around in a while - No internet, went away for a month, sick birds, and 2 jobs..... lol ok no more excuses, i will make a bigger effort to stay updated - i really want to get my fish keeping off the ground and to new heights!:)

I had a bala in my one tank, the power tripped last night at midnight so i put oxygen tablets in the tanks and then at 3 am the power came back, went to go check everyone and my bala was gone - just gone!

I looked behind the tank did a full clean (50% water change, thats my full clean) took out all the ordaments and plants, took apart the filter and nothing - cant find my shark anywhere, i think im losing my mind! has this happened to anyone else? The tank has a lid so he couldnt have gotten out.
    Help?

Ok so I have just gotten myself a new 200liter tank and am very pleased! :) lol
I would like suggestions on what to put in it - so far it has a plec.....
in my other 200 liter i have another plec and some guppies and one neon, I keep meaning to replace his lost school but i never get around to it.

Bala's EXTREMELY high strung fish - especially if kept singly.... + they can jump great distances .... my guess is that he made a dash for it when you popped in those oxy tabs... look as fat as 5 meter's from the tank....

Sorry to hear that you lost the fish.

200L is no where near big enough for Balas. They get to 40cm+ and do much better in groups.
So a very big tank is more ideal

What size is your bala? Do you have an overflow box? Is it possible that it might have jumped in it?

he was about 6cm in length, still a baby, and i dont have an overflow box - i even took apart the filter to check he wasnt in there, i think what may have happened is he got out and one of my dogs took him off somewhere :(

This has happened to me recently but with a Platy and a guppy. These two have disappeared into thin air. I have looked in and around the tank as well as checking my filters but they have just disappeared (possibly abducted by aliens in the middle of the night) . I cant see that my other fish ate them as there are no traces of the two at all.

One for the x files i guess.
