Anyone know where I can find a Polypterus Endlicheri? I live in Brackenfell, close to Cape Town. If you know of someone or of a shop that has stock please let me know. I also want to know what it is selling for and what size it is (10cm is a good size, not much smaller and not bigger than 20cm).

    Thanks guys!

There are a whole lot of Bichirs at Perky Pets at Cape Gate.
Perkies are unforunately a bit pricey usually
There where some at Panorama about 2 weeks ago.

Not sure what species they shops had

Hi Gilbertr14, thanks for letting me know. But I know of the ones at Cape Gate, they are the standard polypterus - Polypterus Senegals I believe..? Yep, there were a couple of Polypterus Endlicheri at Panorama. I had two of them.

Unfortunately since it was my first time owning Polypterus I wasn't aware that these guys eat ANYTHING...and that includes little pebbles! The one died because it choked. Then I took out the pebbles in my tank and got the last Endlicheri Panorama had. Then THAT one died 'cause it kept lying in a corner where some of the fish waste collected. I couldn't believe when 4 days later he died of dropsy! And here I thought fish never ate other fish's poo! Didn't know that these guys literally eat anything.

Oh well, now that I learned the hard way I'm desperate to get another (already have my name on a list at Panorama) and meet its strict demands (NO plecos in its tank for now, they create way too much waste!). As it gets older I'm sure it will smarten up or at least be tougher and survive if it accidentally swallows something inedible.
