Hi Everyone, for those who don't know already TASA has a fish database for anyone looking for information on aquarium species: http://my.tropicalaquarium.co.za/

A few of us are trying to add more profiles to the database and would like to ask for your help. If you have any good photos of a species which hasn't already been added to the database then please add them here, and we will move them to the database accordingly. Feel free to add information on the species, here is an example of what we are looking for:

Pearl Gourami (Trichopodus Leerii)

Family: Osphronemidae
Local Name: Leerii
Max Size: 12cm
Care Level: 1
Min Tank Volume: 100L
Temperature: 22-28°C
pH: 6-7
Habitat: Lowland Swamps
Diet: Onivore that accepts commercially prepared dry and frozen foods.
Behaviour: A peacefull species that can be shy and bullied by boisterous tank mates.
Suitability:
A well planted aquarium with ample cover is preferred.
Compatibility: Well suited to community aquaria with non-aggressive tank mates that share similar requirements.

It is going to take some time to get the database up to standard but with your help we can create a very comprehensive guide to aquarium species which will be useful to everyone interested in keeping fish!

I am not a moderator so I am not familiar with that information, however the other pics are around 30kb and 500x 100, I would think medium would be appropriate. I was hoping to get photos taken by TASA members to avoid citing, but I guess we will have to cite photos taken by other people... I will try find out whether citing is necessary on this database.

Picture must be as small as possible, but still be good enough to look good when viewing on screen. Between 30 and 100kb should suffice.

The picture MUST be one YOU took with your own camera. No pictures off the net. We are building OUR OWN TASA data base.

No blurry pictures... that's just a waste of time.

If the information you give is from another source, please reference it, this is common decency.

@Zoom Thanks for the clarifying that!

@Anine Great stuff, there is still a long way to go.

@Dewald Coetzer Open your photo in paint or any other photo-editor and 'resize' the image to the dimensions zoom recommended and you should be sorted.

@themasterofSAURON Yes please! We can find all the information but we need photos from you guys!

@themasterofSAURON - A bit off topic but is that silica gravel with your Kuhli loach? I have bought silica gravel but I have been advised that it is a bad idea with cory's?

@Zoom can you please add the 3 following groups to freshwaterfish: Gobies, Pufferfish and gudgeons.

and i think there is a third major groups that should be added: Brackish-water fish... Because there are lots of brackish-water fish that are sold as freshwater, but in the long run will do a lot better in brackish-water. Such as the Bumblebee gobies and some of the puffers... IMO...

@MarcHawke, mmm im not exactly sure what gravel it is. it is pea sized gravel and no it is deffo not recommended for cory's. it is the first gravel that i ever bought (i dont like it) it is crap for planting and not ideal for my Kuhli loaches. i am planning on doing a rescape soon and i will be using sand.
