    Hi Guys

Wondering if anyone could direct me to where I can find Driftwood at reasonable prices. I'm in the East Rand area and can't seem to find any driftwood at LFS in this area for less that R52/kg.
There prices range from R52 - R110/kg, is this normal?

I want to change my tank with more natural decoration but at that price I'm struggling to convince myself to do so.

Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

That's more or less what you going to be paying R52+ p/kg.

Hello Hein.If you are close to Pretoria or any other bushveld area you can make your own instead of buying. The reason for the area bound remark is that there is plenty of camel thorn growing around those parts. I use camel thorn to make driftwood make sure to use only wood that was previously cut and is completely dry also check regulations as I believe that cutting of these trees is forbidden in some parts, look for termite traces as I believe that this may be bad to your fish's health. Boil enough water to completely submerse the wood and strip all bark. Place wood in boiling hot water and then repeat daily for around two weeks to completely leech. I have been using mine for a month and as yet I have had no bad experiences. Hope this help you out some.

I get what you are saying...
For aqua scaping its different though you need nice and branchy type of wood pieces. The branching helps to form more detail to the wood.. Don't get me wrong you can use some big pieces of wood in scapes as well when you form higher ground and a river type scape.

My one friend also got nice wood pieces at the Vaal his family had some property there. He didn't boil them he actually just checked the pieces into the pool and let it get submerged and then he would dry it out again and repeat the process several times till he was happy. Had no effect on fish nor his tank for that matter.
