    hey guys,

I see that load shedding may possibly be occurring in CPT in the next few weeks.
According to the load shedding map, each area would be out for a total of 2 1/2 hrs two days a week.
what would be the best way to deal with this?
    I currently have 3 tanks!

dude so do i... we just have to hope and pray things dont gopear shaped. but its summer and the tank temp will stay fairly constant...thefilter will take a knock due to the water being stagnant. this is remedies by awater change and a bio supplement if you really want to go over the top. but itshould not be a problem at all the time is quite short.

Guys you freak out about nothing. I have had my marine tank stand without any flow for 4 hours. All you do is make sure your battery opereated airpumps work.

Haha, you guys are lucky, that you only need to worry about load shedding! As I am replying to this thread, im sitting in bed on the lap top, as a massive storm is on the way. This means every time the lightning strikes we have a dip in the power, very fast ( the TV doesn’t even go off) but all my lights in the tank go off, and on again! And finally when the storm hits, we usually have no power till the morning!

Ja, 2 1/2 hours is nothing... You filter will take a slight knock, so try and keep some Stability, Microbe Lift bacteria, or similar at hand. Dose the stuff just after the blackout, to keep things going smoothly.

Haha, my brother stays about 4km’s away from us, at the foot of the mountain, and in the past 7 days, I think they had 3 days power! And the power dips/ surges are not good for appliances!
Did they give an explanation why they are scheduling the load shedding? As its summer, and the usage is not that high?

I heard on the radio that they can't keep up with the current demand... Which is utterly disturbing, considering it is the middle of summer... Me thinks we may have a tough winter.

@Wyvren dont have a link for you as its a PDF, will try PM it to you.

Eskom said that they might not be able to meet the high demand.
The maintenance work that they are doing to boost capacity together with the high demand has apparently exacerbated the situation ?!? but who knows!

Is that just electricity Henk? Or is it water, rates, garbage, etc?

If it's just electricity, it's pretty high. Mine is around R900 just for electricity.
