Lightweight canopy that supports a couple of lights

Hi there

I am trying to get ideas on how to build or buy a canopy for my 3 foot fishtank. The issue I have is that the tank is extremely basic (pics below). It's literally got a full glass design with no frame. It has a plastic old school canopy but it has since started to crack. Please take a look at the pics before commenting as the tank is very limiting(strength, viability etc).

I am now looking to either build my own or buy one if I can finy any. Has anyone got any experience on this?

 

You can build one out of plywood or buy coloured perspex and build one out of that...

You can also buy those plastic canopy's from most LPS.

I would rather build one from plywood like @5p1nn3k0p suggest. It will last way londer and look neat.

I am in the habit when it gets cold to just cover the tanks, mostly with 4 - 6 mm glass. Does mean doing some funny stuff with lights sometimes.

Haha. I was thinking the same however I am somewhat of a OCD type person. After much research I have decided to make one like Joey's from DIY Fishkeepers (Really cool).

Took my own advice and got a snug fitting bit of 6mm glass from builders this morning for the boyu ...
