I have recently upgraded from a 300 ltr tank to a 800 ltr tank as my 9 discus were outgrowing the old tank .
The old tank had 2 T8 tubes wich were on 2 separate timers to allow me to start the light with 1 tube , than borh and in the evening back to 1 till all were switched off for the night .
The new tank has 2 54W T5 tubes with one double ballast . The way the wiring is shown on the ballast does not allow one to stagger the start time , both tubes come on at the same time and the same in the evening .
Is there any way this can be changed ? If not than I would like to add a small T8 tube to simulate dawn and dusk . Any suggestions as to wich T8 to use and what strenght .
At the same time I would also like to add a tube to simulate full moon . Any suggestions as to what to use there would be very welcome .

I'm assuming you not wanting anything special for plant growth... so really any T8 will suffice. I would even go as far as saying use a normal household tube... yes they give a yellow tinge to the water.. but wouldn't a sunrise / sunset do that anyway? As for moonlight... search in the DIY section, I did a moon light there a few years ago using a few plumbing pieces and a LED downlight

Thanks , will look for the post . Do you remember by any change what colour light you used ? I remember seeing a post where somebody used a blue light for moonlight and than somebody else replied saying that blue for fish is the same as daylight for us .

I used a standard downlight LED. It was white lights. So dim that when you put it on it looks like moonlight. Blue light does not look like moon to me... I've never seen a blue moon!!
