Light Refelction

Hi, I am a newbe, and was investigating the light type. Thank you for all the good imput on the site! I eventually decided on 85 watt CFL lights (4) for my 600 L tank (depth approx 650mm).

Some price research and I eventually found Carlton Lightning in Krugersdorp and bought one light for testing purposes (to fit in the hood).

I asked the owner of the shop, what about light refelection. Unfortunatley, his customers were starting queing up close to the door so we could not get into any technical issues with regrds to his comment.

What I understood was that he was previously involved in light research and the best light reflector is white. His advise was to paint the hood white. It was not folio paper, it was not a mirror, it was white.

Was advised to use the silver heat shield blanket you get at cape union mart, this will reflect the light way better.

 

White can work, just make sure the paint you use is damp proof. Also lookup Alanod aluminium sheeting for reflecting.

Mylar ie space blanket works but not very well in damp environments

I don't know about light quantaty but i know that White , mirrow, alu foil reflect the light different= not original colour (Kelvin) So if you have a special light type because of plant growth etc. check the light coming down.
