    Hi guys

I have decided to post this topic and share with everyone what to expect from most LFS here in the Western Cape. The below is just my personal opinion and experience with these shops, so please feel free to challenge & comment the topic. Also add your stores you find.

Now, we're going to have a few rating categories for each LFS and these are as follows:

    Fish Quality
    Fish Variety
    Fish Prices
    Equipment Variety
    Equipment Prices
    Aquatic Plants Quality
    Aquatic Plants Variety
    Aquatic Plants Prices
    Customer Service
    Fish Food Variety
    Fish Food Prices

For each of the above, we'll use a rating scale from 1 to 10 with 1, being totally bad, 5 being okay'ish and 10 being great.

    Here I go:

Aquatic Pet City (Blaauwberg Road, Tableview, 0215578365)

    Fish Quality = 9
    Fish Variety = 8
    Fish Prices = 6
    Equipment Variety = 6
    Equipment Prices = 7
    Aquatic Plants Quality = 7
    Aquatic Plants Variety = 3
    Aquatic Plants Prices = 5
    Customer Service = 10
    Fish Food Variety = 6
    Fish Food Prices = 7

    General Comments

High quality fish. Compared to other LFS, bigger Marine Fish variety. The best customer service I've encountered thus far. Display tanks very healthy and beautifully laid out. Overall, one of the best LFS I've encountered thus far.

    TROPICUM (N1 City Value Centre, Goodwood, 021 595 3826)

    Fish Quality = 7
    Fish Variety = 7
    Fish Prices = 10
    Equipment Variety = 6
    Equipment Prices = 6
    Aquatic Plants Quality = 6
    Aquatic Plants Variety = 7
    Aquatic Plants Prices = 8
    Customer Service = 7
    Fish Food Variety = 8
    Fish Food Prices = 7

    General Comments

Customer service needs a bit of attention. By far the cheapest fish prices everywhere. Sometimes gets very good aquatic plants and at good prices. Equpiment variety lacks a bit. Quality of fish is decent but sometimes ICH is found in a few of their tanks.

Ok, I'll hold off on the the other shops for now.

Maybe start an identical thread to this for the Gauteng/Pretoria regions?

Admin - Maybe make this a sticky?

    Cheers
    Dale

This is where i purchased most of my kit. Fish seem to be more affordable than SAMs Aquarium in Bergvliet. I got very good service and advice. I didn't get the feeling that he was just trying to sell stuff. The shop assistant that helped me was the same guy who built my tank.

    General Comments

I drove out there to take a look for some plants. The shop is is very well stocked (Equipment and fish). The shop assistants were helpful and Sam is good guy. On my second visit i realized there was a whole marine section i missed the previous time (Be sure to look carefully).
