    I worked for a petshop, and yes they are definitely Spotted Silver Dollars... I've seen real Pirhana as well and there are some subtle differences... The front of the face going down to the mouth is a different shape... Pacu and Pirhana have a very rounded head in comparison to the Silver Dollars...

    These guys really colour up nicely once they have settled down and are eating properly... Very pretty little fish...

    Think all the related species in this group are easily confused and difficult to ID. To me these are not Pacu's as some have red markings higher up on their bodies, behind the gills. The juvenile Pacu's seem to have more of a red belly only.

    Here is a very good read about 'Piranas'. Never knew how many there were.

    @DCWarHound, that archerfish at Pet Masters is one of the bigger species, I suspect it is the Largescale Archerfish. It is unfortunately a brackish water fish.

    @JJFury,
    Yup, you often see the brackish species sold as fresh.
    You do get T blythii now and then. But the give-away is the price. The brackish ones are relatively cheap. But the true fresh water species is quite expensive.

    Hi There.
    Here is a pic of mine that died two days ago, I bought it last Saturday morning at Wazeers Aquariums for R150-00. We had a power failure on Tuesday/ Wednesday (+-20 Hours long). I lost three fish in total. SAD but Escom/City Power said it was a "Cable Fault" ...........Ya my Foot ........... ScumBags. I now in the process in buying a 5.5kW key start generator and mod it to do autostart.

    Don't know how much on a rare find this is. But LFS off Blouberg road in tableview has stunning leopard plecos (looked like) from R35. I intend to go get one tomorrow.

    I dont know if they are legal, but I saw some fresh water lobster/crayfish at a petshop last week in Lydenburg. Pretty mean looking things, each one in it's own corner claws waving at anything that comes close. I wouldn't want them in my aquarium.

    Lobsters are highly invasive and illegal to keep.
