OK, here is the set up...tank size 1200 x 600 x 550mm, water parametres are GH 5 and Ph 7, lots of plants and wood.

Let's see what recommendations are out there for a livestock list for a well balanced ( fish wise ) community tank. Please bear in mind that I am a beginner at this, so none of the fancy expert type of fish, that are going to stress me out because I cannot look after them due to lack of knowledge or experience. Fish that are reasonably tough, readily available, easy to feed and interesting / attractive to look at. Please advise number of fish in shoal etc, eg 15 x cardinal tetras, 5 x SAE etc.

This tank is going to be seen by my clients when they come around to my office, so it will be a show tank with a lot of curious eyes and a lot of questions........and hopefully new interested future fish keepers.

let the debate / recommendations begin!

    TIA

    15 x glow light tetras
8 x corydoras catfish (kind depends on what is available and what you like)
some more schooling fish (not sure right now)

and maybe a breeding pair of kribs as a centre piece

    it's a good start.

Is flourite gravel not too course for cory's? I've heard that they should have a sand substrate.

Keep the suggestions comming......this is gonna be fun.

I will be posting regular photos of the set up so that members can see what the end result looks like.

Dwarf Chiclid behaviour will be perfect for a show tank... really are interesting to watch!

I'd say Apistogramma cacatuoides would be perfect as they are a bit more hardier than other Apisto species

Steve you need to decide on a biotope you want for your tank. If you do not have books you are more than welcome to come look at my book, the 2.5m tank and i make a good cup of coffee.

I am currently stocking the 2.5m with barbs, rasboras, gouramis etc to form a South East asian tank....
