I have a 3 foot tank and suddenly it started to leak. And typically it is at the bottom where the glass meets the styro-foam. I have relocated my fish (filter and all ) to the bath. Any advice on fixing this? Am panicking about my fish surviving in their strange environment.....

has the tank cracked or is it leaking were the silicone is were the two class plates meet?
if it is were the plates meet then just clean it out well and remove the old silicone and reseal. if it is cracked then you have to get a new glass or you can use a piece of glass and cover the crack, Just make sure you seal it very well. I have fix a few of my tanks like this and I have no problems so far.

As for your fish I would recommend moving them to a bucket or a large container.

No crack that I know of - think it is at the seal. I have put my filter and heater in the bath with the fish - should this not be okay. My fish are too big to leave in a bucket. How long must the silicone dry before putting water and fish back into the tank?

The silicone should sit for at least 24 hours to be 100% affective.

On the fish side. I'll say get another tank to keep them in. Even if you need to then do some tank maintenance you have a save holding area for them.

    were are you based Rookie?
maybe some one on here can help you out with a spare tank so that you can use it till the silicone has dried. the rule with silicone is if you put your head into the tank and you can still smell the silicone then it is not ready yet but if you put a fan on to help dry the silicone it should be between 24 and 48 hours.

Hi, I am in Cape Town. Am trying to get another tank as I am not sure how long the fish will last in the bath. Poor Oscar is looking positively grey.....
