These are one of my all time favourite fish! I had 6 of them in my Tanganyika tank about 7 years ago. They are super feisty and put up such a fuss when your get close to their shells. The one actually bit me and just managed to puncture my skin. These fish have no fear. I think in the documentary "Jewels of the Rift" they show one of these attacking a crocodile that came too close for its liking. How long have you had him/them?

Haha that’s crazy, but doesn’t surprise me! I received 3 pairs on Tuesday; I’ve already been bitten Even after a very long trip, they were fighting within seconds of coming out the bag.

Why am I not surprised  One day I will set up a species only tank for them or for Multies again. Hold on to them. I still regret letting mine go to this day

Strangely enough mine spend hardly any time in the snail shells.
The multies live in them permanently.
But the occelatus visit a shell now and then, but don't seem too bothered.

Mine go in and out of the shells, but mostly sit outside guarding them. I stupidly tried to move a shell and was quickly bitten.

I only spotted the fry as when I moved the adults to a different tank and they were behaving 'weird'.

Yeah, my multis go absolutely mental if anything (other fish, w c vacuum etc) goes anywhere near the shells with the fry.
