    Hi Guys

I saw some awesome plecos/ancistrus at the LFS. I asked and was told that they are bristlenose plecos bred locally. Is anyone breeding and supplying LFS in Southern Suburbs with bristlenose? I want to confirm that they are indeed ancistrus. I think they are L183. Black bodies with white tips on their fins. Cannot find a pic that matches. Please help as I don't want to land up with another pleco

Yes, there is a southern suburbs Ancistrus breeder that supplies the lfs I think you're referring to. Cross check Ancistrus dolichopterus to see various pics to confirm?

    They're awesome fishies!

The more common ancistrus usually have the whiye tip on the fin

Email me, or PM which shop, size, and what price.
    Helps pinpoint fish, type, source.
See link below, if it's close to that?
So I can quickly narrow down it's ID

There are a few breeders of the bristlenose, in albino, normal, and LongFin varieties.

Tankbred L183 and similar black ancistrus , with white spotted bodies are harder to find . Consequently their price reflects this.

The white edge is ALSO present in a few other related species, which lose the seam with age.
Not all are black based fish.
as @Ryno noted, it's Much more likelyto find Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus who can exhibit cream coloured Dorsal and Caudal edging, however those would be dark brown fish, and are much more common. The edging diminishes in most fish.

Ja, they're not just "another pleco"

These are true L183 I had some time back
Black with tiny white spots and a blue seam on the fins
They kept their blue seam into adulthood

@Jenn - Thanks. I'm not sure if you meant that I could close it or if you meant the Mods. Could you please "close" this thread.
