    Hi fish buds

I currently have mixed tetras in a 4 foot tank. I am sure I will be able to keep 1 male and two females. I know in this trio they will be on there own and are very peaceful. Please give me some feedback.

Not sure how you equate a trio with a breeding pair.
I don't keep kribensis though, so not sure how that works.
In a community tank they also won't be on their own and may or may not therefore be very peaceful.
At best you have a few kribensis in a tank with mixed tetras.
At worst you made a mistake, and need to remove either the tetra, the kribensis, or rethink the strategy.

Haha out of tune with fish tank lingo lol. Think I kept kribs in a community tank before with no issues. Come where is all the kribs keepers. I will rather not keep kribs then. Just a thought.

I don't have any experience with Kribs, but I can tell you that my Apistos in my community tank gets very territorial. They do however not mind the tetras since they live on different levels of the aquarium.

Everything else, from Kuhli Loaches, Corys, Otos etc. coming in on their territory at "ground level", gets chased off aggressively. No damaged done though.

Thanks @Dinky I rather not take the chance that 2 fish will be causing havoc in my tank not worth it.

Haha can imagine, and everyone and I mean everyone told you that you will not be able to keep them with all the sorts of plants I had in the Puntius Effect and look at what I developed a Barb planted heaven tank with over 76000 views :)

Kribs will pair and the odd one out, becomes a target. As will any fish that goes to close to it territory......Used to breed them, so been there, done that and have the T shirt to show.

    My 2c worth.

So after considering them I have decided not to get them. Rather get peaceful Giant Danios rather much more fun to have and watch.

Based on my own experiences with Kribs I would suggest you could easily put a male and female in a community tank and you wont have any problems. Give them a nice little cave (upturned plant pot) and they will almost certainly make it their home and probably breed. They will likely eat their young if you dont siphon them off but a few babies might make it if they have enough hiding spaces. The parents will often protect the young for a while but eventually they will eat them. (usually the male who eats them and when he is ready to breed again).
The Kribs will inhabit the lower half of the tank and are not quick enough to catch tetras even if they were inclined to so your other fish will be ok. You might pick up a problem if you put other cichlids or territorial fish in with them but otherwise they are a great little fish. I got my first pair 40 years ago and I still keep and breed kribs so I could be a little biased but that's my 2 cents worth
    :)

@MikeKimberley. Good comments, maybe my tanks have also been a bit small and forced territorial fights. I have not had them as the only pair of Cichlids in a tank as well.

This is very good news, the question being have you kept them in a community tank before and had no issues with them? I dont want to take the risk to upturn my whole tank to try and catch them after a few days or weeks. I have a 4 foot 250 liter tank so sure if I put a upturned plant pot in the one corner they will be chilled and peaceful or so I hope @MikeKimberley

Yes I started with them in a community tank and they really are quite chilled and peaceful but active tank mates. They are territorial, especially when ready to breed, and will chase fish away from their "manor" but I have never seen them harm other species. The only time I have ever seen them get really aggro was with each other and then when I introduced a male and female and they were the only two fish in the tank.
IMO they will be fine in a four foot tank with your tetras. The only thing I would caution against is the fact that you risk becoming addicted to cichlids !

I have 4 Kribs in a 450L tank and even that sometimes seems a bit small for them. They don't seem to bother any other species at all and they are kept with serpae Tetra, blue nannocara, rainbow cichlids, angels and fire mouths as well as a few odds and ends. In a smaller community tank you should be fine. I would suggest keeping a single pair rather than 3 as they tend to take most of their aggression out on one another and from what I have read they are not communal breeders like some of the Apistos. Also take your time when you select your fish as if they are older fish you will be able to tell which are the most aggressive in the tank at the time from how the others react to them. Keep in mind that not all kribs form a pair even though they tend to pair fairly easily and that if you by smaller fish they sometimes take ages to get their adult colours although you may be able to find great looking stock if you are patient.

Yes, 1 male and 1 female will be best.
