And in other news, while sorting out my other big 4ft tank (which eventually sold) I was lucky enough for my Kribensis pair to have produced a whole lot of babies!

First time for me, so it’s all quite exiting. They’re about a month old now and about half have survived which is pretty cool. I wasn’t expecting many to make it because it’s a community tank.

I don’t plan on keeping any, so at the right time (to be determined) I’ll have a bunch looking for new homes.

I’ll post a pic as soon as I can

Not without some sadness, the male unfortunately developed mental issues as soon as the babies were free swimming. He became ultra protective, and started chasing the female around a bit, then a lot. And before I could do something, got home one evening to find her dead.

Do the males usually look after the babies instead of the females?

As far as I know they share duties, but it happens sometimes when one of them just totally takes over. Despite what happened, he’s a very good dad. It’s very interesting to watch how he moves them around and chases the other fish away (tetras)

Sorry to hear about your loss, sometimes they do get a little over eager and these things happen. The good news is that most kribs will happily pair up with a new partner, given time, so your breeding journey with these fish doesn't end here!

I hope the fry are still alright? In that picture they already have quite a bit of pigment, which means they have been around a while at least! Hopefully some make it through against the odds.

Had baby Kribs a few times  They are fairly easy to look after. Good luck!
