    no - you will notice the tops of koipond sand filters open very quickly. you then do an open back wash by taking the top off, turning the multi-port to back wash and mixing up the stones with your arm - NEVER use anything other than you arm as you will damage the filters fins.

    :eek:
    My pool is 4 times that size, can I sell it for R300,000?

    My dads koi pond is 9m*1.5m*1m deep or so... Has a sump at the one end with an ordinary drain cover on it, really just a chamber for the pumps. Then the pumps pump the water to the filter room (for swimming pool and koi pond). Then there's a section of the pond loaded with plants and no fish.

    With my line of work I see alot off cool things and although Koi fish and ponds are not in my budget,I still find them interesting.
    These photos was taken at a clients house.He did everything himself,design+build.
    Pond=21000 L

    Trickle filters work well if you have the space for it. Can you get better photos of the pond? I want to check out the water clarity

    WOW - Rudi ... I agree on the budget thing and your client has an awesome setup but can you imagine the number of guppies one could keep in a 21 000 l indoor tub.

    @ Henk: Unfortunatly I don't have access to the house anymore as the project was finished in 2009.So no more photos.But at the time the water was crystal clear.
    According to the owner,the pond,filtration and circulation cost about R100000.
    Pumps and reservoir tanks are neatly tucked away in a pump house/room big enough to house 2 big water tanks.As stated the owner designed and built everything himself,so he saved a pile of money.
    If I remember correctly,the owner said the system was circulating about half the pond volume per hour,so loads of water flow.

    I did a little bit of reading up ponds. Apparently its easier to install your own fibreglass pond. So i figured there must be a catch, anybody care to enlighten me?

    I think we need a how-to pond guide here
