    So my LFS has these labeled as "King Archer Fish" in their freshwater section.

    As far as I am aware, only T blythii is the only permanent freshwater species. And these aren't them.

    Does anyone know what they are??

    Btw,they won't fit into my current setup. I have no intention of getting them.

    There are actually a handful of archers that can stay permanently in freshwater. Sometimes this is a characteristic of the species, other times you might find certain populations (e.g: Toxotes chatareus) are permanently freshwater.

    What size are these fish?

    Going by patterning alone, these look like T. jaculatrix. The dark bars by the dorsal fin extend from the scales into the fin itself, which can occur in maybe one other species but this looks nothing like the smallscale.

    @SalmonAfrica,

    I would say that they are about 10cm. or there abouts.

    From what I have read (can't remember the exact source), T chatareus comes into fresh water, but only on a temp basis. That's where they get caught, and sold on as fresh water. When in fact, they prefer brackish for most of the time.

    Many archerfish that frequent brackish waters are quite tolerant of fresh water, and may move some way into freshwater river systems; though you are right in saying on a temporary basis. However, there are a few landlocked populations of otherwise brackish archerfish species; at least with T. chatareus that I know of. If I'm not mistaken, an Australian hatchery spawned these in captivity not too long ago.

    @SalmonAfrica,

    Being captive bred makes sense - these were £15 each. As apposed to T blythii which usually go for about £75 for a similar sized specimen.
