Unfortunate news today; the only female Centromochlus has died. She looked ready to lay before I went away for 2 weeks, but a few days after I came home she was looking really obtuse and died last night. Sucks but oh well.IMG_20210108_081023.jpg

Oh dear that’s sad news! You think she was eggbound?

I'm thinking it was some sort of bacterial bloat. I cut the stomach a little further and couldn't see any eggs anywhere.

Sorry Hendre. Sucks when fish die, particularly when you are trying to breed and its the last male/female.

Really sorry to hear that. It is so disheartening when this happens even though you do everything in your power to keep them healthy. From what I have seen, your tanks are kept in pristine condition.

And so we turn a new leaf. Tonnes of buce flowers coming up! 1 open, 6 on their way! And I decommissioned the swordtail tub and moved them to the catfish tank. The betta is leaving them alone which is fantastic. IMG_20210113_074928.jpg

Probably the best photo of the adults I could get. Glass needs a good scrub!

Long overdue update! I have been scaling back as I begin the return to uni life, selling my Centromochlus to @A new day , as well as giving the scape minnows to her. The 60l scape is turning into an unheated shrimp jungle and I intend on leaving it that way. It is remarkably algae free but I attribute that to the shrimp keeping it tidy and the plants chowing the limited nutrients I add (whoo for co2!). The buce has been flowering almost nonstop and is growing huge.

Some swordtails leftover from flipping a tank ended up in the bottom 60l. Two large juveniles (maybe adults?) as a m/f pair and 4 younger, bright orange ones. They're living with Lolita the betta and a few remaining kuhlis. There is so much rockwork that I rarely see them. An Amano shrimp SOMEHOW made its way from the scape into the bottom tank, I won't question it. The java fern and anubias are growing big and mostly clean, although BBA is slowly making its way in, especially on the algae scrubber haha. Maybe the amano will eat some algae over time, Lolita seems to ignore him despite her hyper predator instinct.

The big tank is mostly the same. Lots of brown cyano on the glass but the fish seem happy. Muppet the bichir is getting bigger as she chows the lions share of pellets.

Once my tanks get cleaned tomorrow I think I'll take some nice DSLR pics of them to track the progress.

Great thanks @Hendre looking forward to the pics!

How is it being physically back at Uni? A bit of normality or is it a bit weird?

Edit oh uni not actually open yet!
