    What do we do now? My wife's Jewel spawned last night. There's baby fish everywhere. The parents are chasing the other fish away and keep them on one side of the tank. It's a standard 4 feet. How should we approach the situation? Thanks

    Yes, other cichlids. Not shure about type, but they are not Malawi's. See photo

    Well the jewel parents won't eat the fry but the other fish will so. If you want to keep the fry the best bet will be. Remove the other fish to another tank

    @Martin1971
    If you can get hold of some plastic mesh, you could make some sort of divider
    Possibly easier than moviing the rest of the fish

    Thanks for the advice and ID on fish. My wife just bought them and didn't ask about the type she was buying. We both have our own tanks. Mine is a Malawi tank. She has a "all sorts" tank :p

    @Martin1971, agree with @Reedfish but... not long ago I battled to find something firm to use as a divider and no LFS had tank dividers

    After the event, I found a LFS that keeps eggcrate in stock and its not expensive, they sell it the size you want
    The holes are a little too big to keep fry from getting through but its firm and easy to set up as a divider and then you can use like a fine netting material on it to stop the little ones getting through
    Let me know if you need will pm you the LFS

    I make tank dividers out of plastic mesh.
    I get it from arts and crafts/hobby shops.

    Not sure if it is available in SA.
    The edges need re-inforcing, otherwise it collapses. But the entre has a measure of flexibility. So it's fairly easy to install.

    Thanks, we managed to put the fry with the parents in a 2 feet tank. All sorted for now. There are so many, about 200 I guess.
