Java Ferns

Ive had java ferns before and never added any fertilizer planted in normal aquarium gravel and they where growing amazingly. Now that I've a thank with fluorite gravel CO2 and adding fertilizer I struggle to get them to keep there leaves. All the leaves get black spots on then brake off at a later stage. I'm using Tetraplant fertilizer and a bubble per second CO2. The java is wedge under a log so all the roots is exposed.

Ive heard that it is a shortish in iron that cause the black spot on the leaves, and that some people add steel nails to the tank to add some iron to the water.

Is there any other advise or something I can do to get my java to shape up again.

You can fert with Seachem Iron.

@Tetra, steel nails do not supply iron, iron nails would; that being said do not use nails, it will cause issues. - some will debate this but i personally would not take the chance.
I have not seen iron deficiency cause black spots but potassium deficiency created dead spots. - But its a possibility

This could also be the start of bba. - Keep an eye on it and see if the holes start growing.

As a note, be careful with iron, follow the dosing correctly and try stay away from iron testers; have tried a few and they all gave different readings in the same tank at the same time.

 

Here is a picture of my java fern leaves. I think my description of black spots should rather been leave turning blackish brown with holes in the leaves.

Is there a suggestion for fertilizer that I can use. The pet shops in Alberton don't really stock Seachem products.
