6500 grant is deep.... ill spend so much money on fish but not 1 fish. Arowana is lekke fish to have. When I see them is always one in a community tank. Get keep them as a specie tank in a group?

+1 I've seen that certificate, the signatures look like stamps, I would also suggest they prove by a physical scan of the chip whilst you're present. It's a nice fish, but a lot of tom.

You will need even deeper pockets for the size tank to house a few arowanas.I think @pHishman (Andrew posted a video of a asian arowana breeder some time ago it was awsome but his tanks stretch the length of the house.

rule of thumb is: tank 6x the length of the fish, that cute 15cm aro you pay R499 for can reach 90cm in 3 years, they grow at about 30cm/year.

6x length of fish sounds crazy and a little ambitious
recon a wide 8 foot is about rite for adult aro so 2.4X.7X.7 a 5.4meter tank just not possible

Agree with your sentiment top dog, i think the point is that aro's, red tail cats, giant pleco's etc. can only be housed in the biggest (public) aquaria, and few fish keepers are likely to have an adequate size tank for fish this size. Of course a big problem is the LFS that happily sell these potential monster to people with 1.2m tanks, and will tell them that "the size will be limited by the tank", the fish "grow very slowly" etc, etc.

    agreed
moral of the story people on a fish forum not the problem it is the thousands of ignorant keepers out there
tanks full of silver aro come in to suppliers that always seem to sell out
hints why i like the idea of asian aro 5k fish aint going to be bought casually, research is going to happen and my mind tells me if you buy a 5k fish you going to spend atleast 10k on housing it thus a happy fish and great tank

Wow, They don't tell you that at the LFS  Luckally I have seen bigger ones in display tanks and this stopped me from putting one in a 4ft tank which would have been sure torture for the poor Arowana!!!

Very, very few ever will. I always wonder what happens to all these large, potentially monster fish?
LFS will take few (<1%) back, and sell them on.
If you see how many large specie catfish, pleco's, aro's, tinfoil barbs, bala sharks etc, there are always on sale vs the very few people with 2m+ tanks, you have to ask the question, what is the fate of all these fish?
