I have this old internal filter i found in the garden shed (sometimes a well spring of hidden treasure, sometimes a shed full of junk) Its an old Sacem 400l/h The clip pieces that held the pump motor and sponge chamber together broke off, anyone have some constructive idea of what to do with it? Besides saying i should bin it, can anyone think of a way to fix it, or use the parts?
I'd say you should try and find/make something to replace the broken clips and re-use the filter in a smaller/quarantine tank?
thats what i want to do, i just have no idea how to fix it, minds like a SIF atm, just wrote criminal law, and got a sinus headache :gatvol:
LLB electives chosen are Medical Law, Practical Clinic Duty, and Cyberlaw Planning to do LLM Information Technology Law next year (cyberlaw) any repair suggestions? epoxy glue some kind of plastic pieces for the clips? Silicone the thing together and if the impeller goes chuck it?
okay, after figuring out i could remove the back lable plate, it was a matter of taking copper wire and stringing the two pieces tightly together, i'll test it later to see if it works... Now, what do i put in the canister, the old sponge is vrot, crumpled and unusable I think this was one of my dad's tank pumps back in the day
scratch that... it doesn't displace any water The pump goes on, the impeller churns away, and all it does is make some noise, there,s no filtering happening, its maybe seen its time and now its done, i dunno
Sound meaning? - Solid, stable, working with the auditory impaired, or a auditory devices sales rep. ??????
[thread Hijack] I'm a final mix sound engineer. Do radio and TV commercials, documentaries, movies and AV's. I work in Joburg at post production facility. [unhijack] Well, maybe the pump just needs a new impeller?
Definitely keep the copper out the tank! Maybe try find some Stainless Steel wire. And ja, it might be the impeller that's stuffed or the motor might just be past it's sell-by date.
by copper wire, i meant the insulated telkom wire stuff, that you use in electronics kits i found out the impeller isn't being turned anymore, the plastic bit that usually goes through the magnet and then connects to the fins, had broken, but if i could just put a tiny drop of something like pratley steel between that plastic bit and the magnet, the fins will go bos again I don't think superglue will hold under water, could i use pratley steel, or should i sommer use silicon? I dunno where the dingus i would find a new impellor if i had to replace it though. I'll take it with me to work this weekend, maybe the hydro, sicce, eden or waterfall impellers might fit...
... I took the thing apart, bushes off, fins part off, till i just had the magnet left, stuck silicone down the middle and wiggled the inside plastic shft thing back in, then stuck th thing back together, dunno how to explain really, but its reassembled, and should work when cured, assuming that the tiny bit of grip the silicone will provide holding the "shaft housing" to the magnet is enough against the resistance of the water when its being displaced... SO, i'll update when its cured and working, hopefully its a solution, likely its a temporary solution, but who knows, it may hold. Otherwise i'll go looking for a new impeller somewhere
I dont think the silicon will hold i am afraid. i not to sure what glue will hold it , water and constant force will make most glues come apart given time
yeah, thats what i think will happen as well As i said, i'll go looking for a new impeller at work, dunno where else to look
