    Hi there

I have another tank incoming soon, probably anywhere between a 150 and 250 from what I can tell. The room we kept our tanks in, is a braairoom, which is cool and shady and perfect, but this tank is too big for THAT side of the room. So I have two options. An official "iron" stand as they are sold with the tanks at the shops, or the following photos.

It is a very solid feeling table top, next to the braai, and I am not sure if the beams used to make it, can be trusted with several hundred kilograms exerting a force on it for years.

Could I get any advice on what you think? WHen I look at this compared to the Boyu thin wood stand they sold me with my 80 liter, I cannot help but worry about ALL tanks.

    Thanks in advance.
    Marlon

PS: hopefully the photos will work, I am sharing them from my dropbox public location. The one is the counter top, the other one shows what the beams look like from below.

Haha I have a 400 litre on a kitchen island construction made, basically, from fibreboard. I am not the right person to ask but FWIW I would happily put a big tank on there.

Those lintels will take the load, easy peasy. You can stack 5 of those tanks on there and it won't budge. Lintels are specifically made to carry weight - allot of it.

AFAIK on top of your doors and windows, you're entire roof truss is sitting on a mere two of those

Lintel. Ok, see I did not even know about that. Explains why I couldnt drill holes for a blind on top of one of my windows.
Are you sure these are lintels?

    Thanks guys.

Yep - possitive. And yes, good luck drilling through those. It's possible, but you need one KICK A$$ 2KW power drill :p

I finished building a addon to my house (braai room) almost a year ago, and lintils are the only way to go when it comes to building table tops like that. You can also clearly see where the lintils lay next to each other on the first picture you posted, they look nice and wide too, which just adds to the strength. You'll be fine with that tank on there bud, nothing to stress about there.

Lintels that was turned upside-down to get a flat worktop. Will hold a lot of weight. As for drilling a lintel, slow speed and hope you don't get the steel rods in your way. Be prepared to use a lot of drill bits.

If you want to drill holes in your lintels (either for your window or perhaps for curtains under your new tank) make sure you use a hammer drilling machine and a masonary bit. Drill slowly and check when/if you hit the reinforcement, then disable hammer action, change to a steel drill bit to drill through the reinforcement and continue with the masonary bit once done (hammer action activated again). Patience is key, but what is 5-10 minutes per hole, you won't see that afterwards, the end result will still be there long after the effort is forgotten. @knipe is correct, the lintels will take several tanks.

Will you be braai-ing there? just be careful of possible heat given off from the braai through the bricks...doubt it will do to much as long as the tank is not against the braai wall...

A valuable 2cent. I checked it out, during the braai, the bricks stay fairly cool on the sides, but I will be making an effort on keeping a fair amount of space between the tank and the braai. I will also insulate with polystyrene. thanks Krefie!
