anyone had this experience mixing the Paroon Sharks in a Cichlid tank, I know it’s not ideal but I have seen other guys in the hobby doing this.

I tried putting a couple of Cichlids(1 cm in size or little bigger) in a tank with Paroon(inch and half in size), the shark swallowed the Cichlids in a week.

I then took the Sharks to the cichlid tank and immediately starting fighting.

Any advice as the Cichlid tank is much bigger hence I want them to to try and live in the same tank.

Where to start here..... Those Pangasius (Paroon Sharks) get massive so i hope you have a huge tank, or at least space to put a huge tank later when they reach adult size. Aside from that, the two sets of fish require quite different water parameters to thrive. If i was you, id go back to the drawing board and do a bit of propper research before buying any more fish.

    @Hlompho Lion ....

Unfortunately.. I have to agree with @BadgerBadger ....

They are not a community fish.. they will eat whatever fits in their mouth and they get huge very quickly.... if it doesnt fit in their mouth they usually eventually kill it
If you were at Wazeer's to get your Malawis you must have seen how many he has there that people have taken back and seen how big they get
I witnessed two pangassius sharks attack two full grown about 35cm Oscars and literally rip them to pieces in a few minutes
I actually took those two Oscars home and gave them a home... took a long time for them to heal and the male's one pectoral fin never really grew back.. it was a little stump

They also go into an absolute frenzy at feeding time and become even more aggressive..
My advice is.. if you have a very big tank and you want pangassius... then have a species only tank although I know of instances where they turn on each other too
If not a very big tank and alone.. rather take them back to the LFS
Over and above all this, their requirements are very different to African cichlids

Thanks for the advise guys, I have a 7ft tank that I am going to setup for them in the future right now I am keeping in a 2 ft because they small but I know how big they grow. Should I feel that they too big for a 7ft I will donate them to someone with a massive tank

    I love this forum.

Finding a donor tank for fish in the 30 cm/40 cm range is very difficult, especially carnivore fish. 'You tube' Paroon fish and you'll see they munch trough 25 goldfish in less than 2 minutes. Needs a specie only tank.

Only problem is that 99.9% of people with massive tanks dont want them either as invariably they have a fair amount of money invested in the fish they
have in those tanks and wont take the sharks and take a chance on losing half their fish..

We often get messages from people that know we have massive tanks offering us Red tail catfish, pangassius and a few others for free and we say no thank you.. so just keep that in mind

Pangassius is better left alone...for obvious reasons.

In the long run it’s the best decision to make. Enjoy the Malawi’s!
