    Hi Everyone,

Just a short intro. Everyone calls me Noodle, and have ever since I can remember. It's a long story but to cut it short, Santa Clause gave me the moniker :blink1: but that was a long time ago.

When I first started keeping fish, I was a lot younger than I am today. In the good ol' days when you just bought a tank, an air pump and a heater, turfed in some gravel, water and some fish, and you had yourself an aquarium!

Needless to say, I soon got bored with the whole mess and gave everything away to a colleague, who also, after an enthusiastic start, gave up an gave everything away to someone else.

Years have passed, and I'm now retired and bored out of my skull.

I don't know exactly what prompted me to say it, but when my wife told me that my kids had asked her what I would like for my birthday, and that I should give her a few suggestions, I said that I would like a "fish tank".

Okay, cool. Come my birthday, the family had clubbed together and gave me just over R1000.00 to buy a "fish tank" with.

WOW! Clutching the thousand bucks in my hot little hand I headed off to the nearest "fish shop" and came out more than R5000.00 lighter in the wallet than when I went in.

Then came the rude awakening, Things are very different now to what they were years ago.

After loosing a bunch of expensive fish, I started to learn about such things as ammonia poisoning, cycling (which I always thought had something to do with bicycles, but fish don't need bicycles, do they?), Nitrites, Nitrates, ph, total alkalinity, hardness, and a bunch of other water tests. Not to mention diagnosing and treating fish diseases.

Thank goodness for the internet and Google!

Yes, it's a whole new and fascinating game. I can't get enough of it. I've been scouring second hand shops and blowing my pension on on anything that even looks like it might make a nice aquarium.

Needless to say the LOML is getting a bit fed up with the whole thing and is threatening to move out if I don't stop. "...there's not enough space for me and your $@# fish in this house! Either the fish go, or I go, make up your mind!!!"

*sigh* I'm going to miss her.

    Hi Guys,
Thanx for the welcome, I'm feeling at home already!

I doubt I will be getting bored in a hurry. I must admit that retirement was a bit of a shock, and I was starting to feel a little (make that a LOT) depressed. Now, with my "new" hobby, I feel like a kid again. Every morning feels like Christmas all over again.

As for pics, well, I've only been back at it for 2 months now, and I don't feel my setup is ready for public display just yet.

Apart from my snail problem, I must be doing something right, as the only surviving female guppy from my first disaster has already spawned twice. I fear I may be overrun with guppy fry if it goes on like this!
