    Hello!

Any suggestions for a good quality Internal Filter? I am looking to up the Filtration and Flow of my 500L aquarium which has to largish plecos, 5 silver dollars a ghost knife and a Parrot. The bioload is quite heavy, and the reason why I want to look at internal is because the tank is one of those with a built on sump and large bracing, so getting the pipes right for an external canister is going to be a mission... unless any of the Jedi's have alternative suggestions?

    Thanks!

Cant go wrong with Eheim if you are willing to pay. But the more experienced guys will help you better.

Are we talking the Eheim Internal or External filter?

Internal. They are good filters. I have a dolphin internal but it isnt that awesome for me. I use eheim canister abd its brilliant . Any produc of them is very good. But there is alot of options for you. I am just an eheim nut haha so wont use anything else ever again.

Remove bracing at back of tank. Have one corner cut at an angle and put it back. This will leave an opening at the back corner for pipes to enter and exit the tank without looking messy :)

Its silent. Has alot of space for filter material and they dont get busted. Build quality is very good. Money well spent because you will be using that filter for 25years

Thanks for the suggestions. I think going the internal route would be easier than removing the bracing, and safer (for me hehe).

I might have a chance to look for an internal Eheim tomorrow.

Will give gents some you feedback

Essentially you get what you pay for, the more expensive range is better quality, however if you not willing to go for Eheim
    Then look at these filters
    1.Sicce Shark ADV 600L/H
    2.Cascade 400/600
    3.DOPHIN internal F-2000 650L/H
    4.Boyu internal filter

Dophin/Dolphin has totally redone there internal filters .. they not crap anymore so if you get the newer kind its an almost identical copy of the Eheim range.
They have redesigned all there internals totally, the external just has new packaging exactly the same design.

You will also notice not only is the filter very similar to that of Eeheim but the box colors and design is also very similar ..

I think with the redesign Dolphin has taken a step further then all the other cheaper makes.

you could check with the sponsors and see if they have the new dophin filters in stock.

Two of the bigger LPS here in cape town have the full new range in .. As mentioned it looks allot more germen in design,

Yeah they tend to clog, but thats a good sign of a mechanical filter.

I have 5 running at the moment :p, my main concern was the lack of filter media space.
Works well as a chemical filter and a mechanical filter .. but it lacks in the most important sector the bio filtration.

I replace the carbon compartment with Seachem Matrix,
and the one I have taken out the sponge and carbon and added in purigen (this is my clear-water filter) which i move between the 9 tanks..

if you have the bucks and want quality you could also go with the Juwel internal filters.
