I was wondering, with all the LFS importing fish why do we not see more of our indigenous fish on the market?

Ya i think he would be the best at this.

But if we do need permits, i would think it is a bit stupid. Wouldn't it be better for people to buy fish that comes from South Africa and then when the get bored they flush them and it won't damage our ecosystem?

i know to catch marine fish on the rock pools etc for your tank, you go to the post office and produce your id and r80 and you get a permit for a year, allowing you to catch 10 fish/10kg of plant, etc per day.

its a blue form. i'm getting my permit soon. just a matter of going back to the post office and buying the permit. form is already filled in.

as far as freshwater fish go, there's no section on the permit that stipulates "Tropical/Freshwater Fish Aquarium" in the way "Marine Fish Aquarium" is.

    I'm guessing it's a different permit.

    :) sharp

sis guys. Now we are going away from the point of the thread. Will find out from Henk why LFS don't sell indigenous fish.
