I'm currently on th ehunt for a canister and have been looking at various brands. The one's I've been looking at is Cascade, Dophine, ViaAqua, Aqua One. Haven't seen Eheim here in Rsutenburg, want to have a look at the Eheim classic 2217, currently running a 4ft planted community and just had it with my internal filters, always need to check when one of my fish sqeeuzed itself between the glass and the filter and I need to rescue it before starvation.

Any of you guys out there, please give me your opinions on the brands mentioned before I'm investing in a cannister and are there any of the sponsors that can give me a price on the Eheim Classic 2217 please (pm my inbox with price please)!!!!!!!!!

@Morak, thanks for the reminder, forgot to mention Fluval, haven't seen it either here in Rustenburg, did see a TetraTec EX 700 but didn't want to buy it, think it is a bit under sized fro my tank, recommended for tanks up to 200 liters and cycle 700 l.ph. Any idea where a I can get maybe a Fluval?

Tetra Tech makes a 1200 liter per hour, EX1200. If you can, get two canister filter, that way you will always have one as a backup I case the other one gives you problems, and when you clean the filters you alternate between the two, one this month and the other next.

I currently use a EX 1200 on my 500l tank. It is a good product but, I have to regret that the flow rates quoted is not easly reachable. The pipe diameter limits this filter to a mere 800l/h max. Mine sits below the tank (+-800mm). At this stage I am not yet relying on the higher flow rates but, I will soon have to think of a serious upgrade to get to the 5-10 tank volume changes per hour.
