Needs to be at least 50 cm and 50 cm wide, and you need to calculate 70 litre per one adult discus. For youngsters you need to have a much smaller tank, but for a small group (you should NEVER start with less than 6) a good tank is 60 cm long x 50 cm wide x 50 cm deep.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    I agree with Dirk.
Younger fish should be fine in a 3 foot tank.
You'll have to do you regular water changes but it shouldn't be a problem.
I've kept 300+ angles in my 3 foots.
Its starts getting a problem when the fish reaches maturity and pair off.

I would not even try this. You are setting yourself up for disaster and you will loose/stunt many fish along the way. If you are serious about keeping discus, you would have done your homework by now.

Go and read my post :

    http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/showthread.php?12400-Discus&highlight=discus

I am keeping discus in accordance to what I have read and been mentored by Dirk. You will hear the same story over and over again, by guys keeping discus. Please dont base your decision on what someone says MAY work. Listen to what guys say WILL work.

    Regards

    Andrew

trust me, if you do it properly the first time round, the discus bug will bite you hard..........and you will have a lot of joy from these fish.

Update your profile so we can see where you are located.

there are 2 very knowledgeable discus breeders in/around Durban. Aquazulu and pompadour here on TASA. Perhaps contact them and see if you cant pop around and see their set-ups.

Trust me, when you see how its done properly, your mindset changes. I will never forget my first visit to see Dirk's set up......and I cant wait for my next one.

when growing out discus is best to go with no gravel and no decorations!discus is amazing fish, and will soon interact witi you whenever you come close to tank!so no decor needed!and much easier t6 do water changes when bare bottom
