My friend called me up and said he's tank burst and that he needed homes for his fish quick. He has no idea what this is so i'm asking you.

Don't know but looks like a common Dam Baber :) Not a horse though so that should help.

Looks to me from that pic like a weather loach or stone loach! Both of which are considered blacklisted here. It won't eat your other fish, but it can be invasive in the wild!!

    Cheers
    G!

    It'll be fine!

I used to keep them in the UK! Great to watch!!

Only thing is they don't really like higher temps, they are sub tropical species so prefer temps from around 8 to 22 degrees if I'm not mistaken? They can go higher, but don't really like it!!

    Cheers!
    G!

Agree with Big G – Weather Loach – saw them at AK in Pretoria a while ago – maybe ask your friend if that is where he bought it – they were in the cold water tanks with the goldfish.

Kept them in a cold tank. But The tanks light broke. so i took the lid off to get to the light . an hour later after I got new bulbs they were gone. I looked everywhere so I'm assuming they jumped out and got eaten by our cats. or they are just under the gravel. but time will tell

I could be corrected but i think i had 1 of those two, it was named as the "stinging catfish", check it out on google, the spines of the fish are able to sting you, very painful but not fatal :) ,my eel ate mine :-( glad my eel never died though :)

Not quite. Google image Cobitis and Misgurnis, you'll see it's closer to these two.

yeah, they are chinese weather loaches, and if memory serves me correctly, they can survive out of the water, by developing a mucus like covering over their body. So have a very good look around you might find it where you least expect.

I did think at first that there is no way my moral ate me "stinging catfish" but then again. . .there was no way for it to get out the tank either. I searched my entire ro0m, both filters, clean whole tank and couldnt find it, made the hypothesis that my moray eel ate it
