    Hi

the pic 1 is a nimbochromis venustus, they grow large!

pic 3 is some kind of zebra mbuna(rockfish)

That blue number is specifically metriaclima estherae (blue) commonly known as the red zebra, yes RED!
    hope that helps!

If I could make a suggestion....

Mybe think about making your setup more area specific, you have some cichlids (incl. angels) from S America, then cichlids from Malawi and Tanganyika, the neon tetras will be eaten sooner rather than later esp. by the Venustus.

The reason why I say this is because I am a firm believer in providing correct non-fluctuating pH levels for fish.(even though they can adapt to the wrong pH levels)
    Guess its a personal thing.

The S American need acidic water
The malawis need neutral to slightly alkaline water
And the Tanganyikans need very alkaline water.

Do you see the vast range?

You will be lucky if they breed, and them malawis are very easy to breed.
Let me know if I can help, I have has much experience with African rift lake cichlids!

I always have a problem distinguishing between the Venestus and the Nimbochromis Livingstonii.....I know the latter... (Livingstonii) grows to more than double the size of the Venestus....

Below is a photo of my Nimbochromis Livinstonii, & I'm under correction, but I think they can grow up to about 25/30 cm...???

no, you thinking of neolamprologus brichardi (daffodil cichlid) also from Tanganyika like your Frontosa.

Its def a zebra mbuna, you can tell from the short nose as they are mainly algae grazers.

I am pretty sure its a red zebra, but nowadays with the hybrid possibilities it is hard to find true colours.

They prefer rocky areas where as the venustus is an open water fish. (that not to say that he won't hide)

I must say the GT are awesome
    Are they a pair?

    yeah

the livingstonni is more slender and the markings are more brown(and they merge more)
Venustus is more greenish and blue-ish

Sorry correction the daffodil is another phase of brichardi, I meant (fairy cichlid)

    I AGREE
BUT the neons were food along with some swords and mollies and the malawis were in the same bag .score .the frontosa is a rescue from a little 30cm tank at a crappy lfs in germiston cbd payed R50 so he will go into his own 1.5 when i get the new one from derik .the plan is to combine 2 of my tanks stock. into a monster S.A TANK .stock list will be
    1: large silver arowana
    2: 2 large oscars
    3: 5 pictus cats
    4:2 green terrors
    5:1 jaguar cilchid
    6:1 texan
7:mabe the 5 large siver dollars
anthing else will stay in the 2 remaining 1.5m tanks if i dont feed them to my arow and oscars or archers in the brakish tank

Pic nr. 3 is a Red Zebra, also known as Esther Grant's Zebra, (Pseudotropheus Estherae). Got one of them myself. If you google Pseudotropheus Estherae, you will see it is exactly the same colour. The females have an orange/redish colour
