Should add that the grey and orange fin fish keeps on chasing the long orange one around, should I separate them?

First one seems like a golden chinese algae eater, second a bleeding heart tetra, third red tailed or ruby shark.

    Pic 1 - Not sure
Pic 2 - black phantom tetra.
Pic 3 - Rainbow Shark grows to about 15cm (hopefully only one in the tank)
Pic 4 - Can't make out what's at the back

Yes only one shark, but he is chasing the golden chinese algae eater, should I remove one of them? Number 4 is a smallish round orange fish

Pic/Num 4 might be an albino black skirt tetra. To google it to confirm.

Regarding the Rainbow Shark it depends.... Is it chasing the other fish non stop or occasionally. I'm afraid they're known to chase other fish to the point of death. I have a red tailed shark, which is very similar, but I've given it enough space and places to hide and explore so it doesn't bother the other fish too much. But if it doesn't stop, you'll have to think of passing it off to someone else with a more suitable tank and tank mates.

How big is this tank @Ernie?

2 is a Serpae to me.
4 is a whiteskirt (leucistic black widow)

    Hi Ernie,

I agree with BadgerBadger's summary on the rainbow shark - i have almost always kept a rainbow shark in my community tank, wonderful character, and yes they do tend to chase specific tankmates, particularly their own kind or similar species - so yes, if the behaviour is relentless even with enough tank space & structure for the targeted fish to hide, then you may want to separate.

The Serpae tetra aka Jewel Tetra's - now here is another potential problem depending on what other fish you are going to keep with the Serpae. I have 4 in my community tank, beautiful fish, but Im seriously looking for alternative accommodation due to their nasty fin nipping habit - so if anyone stays in Middelburg & you want four lovely healthy fin-nipping jewels - PM me

I didnt pick up on this trait for some time & at first couldn't understand why my only angel in the community was looking worse for wear - in fact it became so bad that I believe he would have died from stress /infection if i didn't transfer him to another tank when I did. They are now turning their attention to my gourami's..:-( So basically not a good tankmate for any fish with long fins)

I will keep my eye on them, there is only 2 of them, about 4-5 guppies, the shark isn't chasing the golden chinese constantly but when he will swim by he will.

Nice, give us an update once the light is in & everyone's settled. I'm sure you will enjoy the rainbow shark - doesn't appear too serious, just showing who's BOSS

Keep your eye on the chinese algae eater.. Have heard they can be aggressive too (sucking the scales off tank mates)..
Have not had any myself though.. Had the sharks in a community tank for about 3 years though, and never had a problem.. I guess fish have personalities too???
