ID needed for wild fish found in Mooi River

I found this little fish almost dead among the weeds in the Mooi River, just above the Mearns Weir (outside Rosetta), while fishing over the weekend. A blue glint caught my eye, when I took a closer look I found this little fish - any ideas what it could be?

 

I think its a blue gill by the looks of were the blue is situated.

 

Its a member of the Tilapia family also I mite stand to be corrected.

 

Yup - Blue Gill.... invasive trash.

 

It's pretty, just saying.

 

Not a cichlid - belongs to the North American Sunfish family.... Efficient predator that has wiped out many local fish populations.... Quite fun to fish for on ultra light tackle - just dont "catch and release" ...
