so i was in pta today and stopped off at menlyn for a movie, afterward i thought hey lets pop in at the lfs and check out their plant section, now of coarse i had a browse the fish i mean who doesnt and saw they had double tail female bettas!!! so of coarse i start counting out pennies and so on and bought 4. they gorgeous but still babies only about 5cm long so i now have my first sorority:bigsmile:. im so chuffed with them 3 have settled right in, i have a green, a blue, a red irridessant green and a cellophane. at the moment they all still exploring and getting to know their new home but i'm so happy, i put the wood in the tank yesterday and now this! in fighting for position hasnt started yet but thats only a matter of time. i am concerned that i will be going on hols for the long weekend, in truth i should have asked them to save them for me and taken them home when i got back but i couldnt resist, i'm hoping the multitude of hidey holes and the fact that theres 4 will spread aggression. i promise pics will follow when i get back from hols.:blink1:

Nice one, sounds like me but I got 5 females :)
Long weekend should not be a problem. Feed them a little today and they should be OK.

Shouldn't be a problem Windfire. I have 4 females in my tank, and to date they have not shown aggression at all towards each other. Even the Male shows no interest in them. I would agree with Vis, feed them a little today, and then let them settle in. The "hunger" and "Search for food" instinct may be what keep them alive rather than showing each other aggression.

    pics!!!

ok so im back from the farm, which was it usual awesome peaceful self. i was going to post these last night but we got stuck in traffic and after almost 11hrs in the car i decided i just wanted sleep hehe. so introducing Ophelia and either Hera or Morrigan i havnt decided for the red lady. unfortunately the other two females died over the weekend i found the lil skeletons yesterday. i think that it may have been the stress of the long trip home from pta and my mom forgetting to turn the light off before she left for the long weekend. the two of them were very nervous and still had their stress stripes when i left on thursday morning. the remaining two seem to be ok, they've eached staked out a territory, halving the tank and are constantly going for the snails. the red lady is already dancing for food  anyhow enjoy the pics

thanxs slimpiet, they were a really lucky find.

thanx vis, im starting to think she's going to be the dominant one, though they both have very strong personalities.looking at the photos now though the red looks like she still has stress stripes aswell. i love the light one aswell, in some light she's red in others she has a metallic blue sheen. i would like to find some more darker bodied ladies, preferably something other than blue or red. i've stil got big plans for this tank, hopefully one day it'll look like your tanks vis ;-D

oh and the third pic is the red telling ophelia that its my rock! lol quite cute really they stiill so lil

That is the one thing that makes these bettas awesome in the first place that you would never be able to get on camera.

Talking about little. I saw some betta females that were HUGE. Easily 6cm and fat. none of them looked very healthy though. To many in one tank if you ask me.

shame poor things, maybe bloat? when i was at the store where i got mine, there were about 3 dead females and one really tattered female. i might go back this week and see if there any left. i think stress is a big cause of death in bettas, especially when you consider the distance they travel to get here. there were some nice white ones there that i over looked in favour of ones with more colour. aaahh well i'll see how i feel tomorrow.
