    Hi everyone,

So the solution is Rabbit snails. I have had a tank that has been infested with clado for years. Tried all sorts to clean it up - nothing worked. Best results were with peroxide which kills it where you spot dose but it eventually ends up coming back if you dont keep up with the dosing. But I digress

So I redid an anubias tank that I had that had 4 rabbit snails in it. While I was redoing it I moved them to the clado tank (which is a standard 3ft tank containing c.parva and cpds). When doing a WC a week later I noticed that the clado came off the plants very easily. So I started dosing peroxide again (once a week after I have removed 30 % water but before I add the new water) but now I noticed how clean and bright the crypts look. Got another 4 rabbit snails a week ago - now about half the tank is clado free (as far as I can tell). My crypts are bright green, the rabbits are all over the tank and very active. I am sure in about another month the clado will be gone if the rabbits continue at this rate.

I cant confirm if it is definitely the rabbits but it seems a bit coincidental that the same week I added them the clado started to reduce. I suppose people will need to try it out and confirm if they get the same results.

Have some clado in some of my 1.5 foot tanks. Added baby rabbit snails (7) to the one but havent noticed a difference yet, probably too few and too small to make a diff yet. In the tank with adults there were minimal clado but will go check if there are any left. The rabbits do like some of the softer leaf plants.

Do you feed anything in your tank with the clado? Think it might be a case of whats on the menu if there is no fish food being fed. Rachel O’Leary has a vid where she has a tank full of Amanos where she drops in all her algae covered wood and plants. She doesnt feed that tank anything at all so the Amanos eat all the algae.

I have cpds in that tank so I feed fish food daily. Mostly its powdered food in the evenings while I feed microworms in the mornings.

Thats quite a good idea from Rachel. My amanos get fish food so they arent interested in the algae most of the time.

@TheGrissom that’s a very exciting possibility. Are rabbit snails easy to keep? What are the parameters they prefer?

    PS gotta love snails

They are very easy to keep. They prefer pH about 8 and temp about 28 but I keep mine at a pH of 8.2 and a temp of 23 degrees.

So the clado is now completely gone - not a trace of it anywhere. I am super happy about that

Just as an FYI. Rabbits do WAAAAAY better with higher temps.
They come from the Sulawesi lakes with is normally about 27-30 degrees (29 being the sweet spot).

Had a bunch of trouble with my rabbits and moved them over to a Sulawesi paramater shrimp tank and they did way better there. They will survive in the lower temp water but I have found that in the long run the temp boost really did make a massive difference.

On a side note and more on topic, I am very big fan of Peroxide, use it almost every tank, but for Clado I have found that you really have to nuke it with a higher % to get it gone. Best case is that there is no livestock in the tank and then you just add some 50% to it.

But some really good info in the thread, will drop a couple of rabbits in the one tank that has a bit of clado in and see what they do.
