I.D this fish

    never seen this before .its about 10cm long 2cm high
    sorry pic taken in bad light on phone.

    Looks like some kind of Elephant Nose, but without a clearer pic can't say which??

    yup will try get better pic.but it does not have the long snout or stipes on the back.is grey not black

    That's a Mormyrus longirostris, from the same family as the Elephantnose. A very, very nice find, those are quite rare.

    thanks got it thinking its s american in origin and not african for my new biotope but from what i can find so far it should be comfortable in a heavly planted setup with only neons and tetras,given him plenty of hiding space and a low light area.if he doesnt look healthy in the next few days ill put him in his own tank.

    Like the more commonly seen Elephantnose, sometimes these guys can be difficult to get to start feeding. Try a variety of frozen and, if possible, live foods - worms or worm-like foods should work, especially if you feed him after you turn the lights off.

    Good luck, that fish will grow into a real beauty.

    the substrate in that tank looks like it might be rough with sharp edges that could damage this fish. it needs a soft rounded smooth substrate that they can forage in with damaging their snout...
