Adult size is under 1 inch. I would like a small group of maybe 6 of these in my PICO. Can anyone source these for me?

    Matt,

Another fish that is similar to this and which is highly suitable for a nano is Bororas brigittae or Microrasbora brigittae. Quality can supply these and I have ordered some from him. Just a suggestion.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Many thanks Dirk will do!

Are the microrasbora brigittae more suited to a PICO sized tank than neon tetra's?

I only want to keep fish that are suited to this little tank. If I can't house them correctly I will just stick to a planted tank

In my opinion yes. Neons only remain at the bottom of the tank and then swim around in the shoals as we know them to do. These Microrasboras swim at all levels of the tank and they also display to each other very attractively and they will spawn in mosses and surface plants which makes them very attractive.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

What are the Dimensions of this tank, and can you post a pic?

How exactly will you heat it? I'd imagine this to be quite difficult in such a small tank?? If its unheated, then maybe a few White Cloud Minnows would be better suited?? Or perhaps a Betta?? They like lower temps, but can handle higher temps too, at least for shorter periods! Neons, and for that matter most Tetras, Danios and Rasboras are not so keen on lower temps, and more importantly large fluctuations in Temp.

Just my 2cents worth! Probably not worth that much?? Maybe 1cent??

    Cheers
    Big G!

he has another thread somewhere with tank pics...

PS: in an unheated tank, you could also consider Austrolebias Nigripinnis (spelling?) which are little beauts and are happy at 14 - 20C...

Here is my tank as it currently is. I do have a 25W heater that fits in the back chambers so I can keep warmer species.

These plants are just "tryouts" hehe :) I'm going to replace them with some mosses and more small plants from Dolphin.

PS thanks again for all the advice Dolphin :D Seems almost like freshwater is harder than saltwater! hehe

The Smaller the Tank in Freshwater, the harder it becomes to look after! Its a Paradoxical reverse algorithm! Oopps! Yesterdays heat must have taken its toll! I'm talking Gibberish!

    Enjoy!

I'm coming from marine setups so far it seems like freshwater is less maintenance! Just weird being a complete noob as I know nothing about freshwater.

I get small amount of evap but the ambient temp in the room isn't bad and the tank is not in direct sunlight so seems like it will be fine...

Why do you think you are talking gibberish Big G? Are you also being kept in a small tank? If you are, remember that it is a little cooler here today.... take a gulp of air....

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

Boraras Brigrittae is out of stock, you might want to consider Boraras Merah...

Dolphin: I think I might just ensure the plants are sorted and then I can get either ember tetras or boraras brigittae when you get stock of them?

Hey Prof, I was referring to the big words 'Paradoxical Reverse Algorithm'! Not usual words in my Vocabulary! Must be Heat stroke! It is a little cooler today, but I'm trying to do house work before the pending little one arrives, and its flippin hot enough for that!

And Matt, I'm sure that Freshwater is much easier than marine, but its definatley true that a smaller tank is more work than a bigger tank once setup!

I think all Nubies (not suggesting you are a nubie!) should be sold 1.2m minimum tanks when they start out! Make life a lot easier for them, although, maybe its an important step in the learning curve to get a small tank??

Any how, enjoy freshwater, I think you'll find it a refreshing change to salt! Tastes much better! haha!

    Big G!

I don't see an answer to the original Question... Can anyone source some of these Ember Tetras? I'd love a school of these guys in my tank! I would take 15 - 20 of them!!
