    Hi guys

    I have no clue where they came from, but I have an hydra investation in my one tank. I didn't add anything new to my tank, so I find it strange that they suddenly appeared.... but now I must get rid of it.

    Any help?

    Thanks!

    If you have hydra, chances are you have flukes as well. Try formalin at 1 drop per litre water, and do a 50% water change after 3 days. Alternatively, you can drop a piece of copper in the tank. That should clear the hydra as well.

    @PappaBear

    Apparently Blue Gorammis love to eat them.

    Also had some hydra in my 20L hexagonal, got myself a pair of silver baloon mollies, have read that they snack on them aswell, don't know if it is true or not, but i don't have hydra anymore.

    Copper sulfate is what kills the hydra correct? not to sure, but wouldn't it be harsh on all other aquatic life aswell?

    Copper sulphate will release a lot of copper, and is very toxic.You should remove all fish before using. It is a lot safer just to drop a piece of red copper in the tank, but you still have to keep an eye on the fish (and the hydra). As soon as the hydra is gone, remove the copper.

    Yup. Apparently Gouramis like to pick on them.

    I used Panacur that I got from my Vet. My tanks were full of hydra. I used Panacur 5% - 1ml per 80L. Just the one dose.
    The water went cloudy for a couple of days but then the hydra was gone and have never returned.
    The tanks were planted and had very young fry and everything was fine.

    Fenbendazole @ 50mg/100lt will kill hydra quick and not harm any of the other animals.
    get a quantel tablet from your vet.

    Apparantly electric current kills hydra if you feel like taking the risk :notrust:

    If these are in tanks with fry you need to get rid of them asap. They wiped out my Gourami fry!
