Been lurking in the sidelines, reading the posts whilst on the train to work, finally became a member this morning. Never kept fish in SA but since arriving in the UK I have purchased quite a few tanks, fish and shrimp.

Started with a 30liter BiOrb, went to a 60liter BiOrb and then moved to quite a few more tanks to end up where I am now, a shrimp breeder in the UK with plans to breed Chocolate Gourami.

So the rundown of what I got:
1x Juwel Record 96
Ebi Gold Substrate with Hamburg Matten filter and cheap T8 light.
Tank is a growing tank for:
CRS (A Grade)
CRS (SSS Grade)
F1 CBS
F1 Tigers (King Kong Mix)
Blue Tiger Orange Eye
Sakura Red (cant get rid of em )

1x AquaOne AR850 (my 4 year olds tank)
Low tech fully planted
Chocolate Gourami
Neon and Cardinal Tetra (the neons are the biggest you will ever see)
Common Ancistrus
Sakura and Cherry Shrimp
Lesser Long Nose Shrimp
Amano Shrimp
Assassin Snails

1x Superfish Aqua 30
Crypt tank with my daughters guppies and some Blue Jelly Shrimp

Breeding Rack:
5x 8 inch by 8 inch by 14 inch breeding tanks with hamburg matten filters
1x 40liter Blue Jelly Breeding Tank

Tanks above house:
King Kong / Panda Mix Shrimp
F1 Tigers (King Kong Mix)
Sakura
Fantasy Blue Jelly
Blue Jelly
Carbon Rili A+ grade

I run a nice little facebook group for UK shrimp keepers and have also started a channel on Youtube

Group on facebook is Freshwater Shrimp - Buy, Trade and Sell UK but its mostly for UK people as I try and keep deals and stuff very UK based, but come along, ill make exceptions for you.

Reedfish, im from just above London in Hertfordshire and loving the life here. In SA I would have never told my wife (and got a Yes reply) when I say 'Babe, can I spend £300 on shrimp this weekend?'

Quick question:

Does shops in SA stock things like Ebi Gold Soil? Shirakura and the like?

Welcome....man your tank is super green, bet you, that's where you keep the Amano Shrimp? You are fortunate to have all those shrimp, we will give our middle finger for those guys here in SA.

I only added Amanos about 2 months back. That tank has just always been a easy tank to be honest. I started it with Ista CO2 Bell and Easylife Profito, moved to Easylife Carbo and then just stopped it all and wha la. My vallis started going nuts and the tank was using more Nitrate than the fish produced and I was slightly overstocked as well.

Some nice shrimp you got there.

 

I go to World of Water in Watford for my main needs as the fish keeper there, Jamie is the best in the county by far and MH St Albans for my Chocolate Gouramis

For my shrimp stuff I shop from aquariumplantfood.co.uk and sharnbrookshrimp.
