Howsit, Just thought I'd introduce my self, this is my first time on these forums, I have been keeping tropical fish for around a year now, this is after I had to get rid of all my reptiles...and i must say it has been a very rewarding experience.

I currently keep 3 neon tetras, 3 lemon tetras, 1 pleco, 1 dwarf gurami, and 2 small angels, in a 50l aquarium...A bit small I know but I am working on a 100l planted aquarium.

Hi Nark0t and welcome to TASA :wavey: I'm so glad to hear that you already know that the aquarium you have is too small for the fish so kudos to you for working on upgrading to a larger tank. :)

    hello and welcome!
the tank is small for only the pleco, even the 100L will still be small. try maybe return him or swap it for fish?
a ancistrus will work great as a replacement they stay small enough for the 100L.
    enjoy your stay

Hello and welcome to masa! :)

Nice fish, but that pleco is eventually going to become a regular PITA... I would consider returning him and getting Ottoclinus in as algae clean up crew. IMO a single otto is worth a dozen plecos! ;-) Bristlenose (some ancistrus) catfish will also remain fairly small.
Oh, and for the tetra when you move up to a 100L you might want to consider at least doubling or trippling their numbers, they will school much better!

    Enjoy!

Thanks guys for the warm welcome.

And to respond to Dane's statement about the pleco, I agree he has become a bit of a pig and some what of a nusance towards the other fish, but again that's not what the "experts" at the pet shop told me when I got him a while back.

Also what is the "common" name for Ottoclinus ?

And I have also been told that catfish, will eat some of my smaller fish, like my tetras.

I was also thinking of getting 1 or 2 clown loaches? would these pose any problems?

Secondly I need some help with regards to setting up my planted 100L, This will be my first Big tank as well as my first planted one, so I need a few pointers with regards to filtration, circulation, and heating. I would also like everything to sit outside the tank, because I want everything as natural as possible.

Here are a few things I have thought of already:

2x 100w heater on either side of the tank, Brand not to sure of ?

1x canister type filter, maybe a 1000L/h? again not to sure of brand and also not to sure why but a few ppl have told me to use these rather.

1x large under gravel filter. But I want to eliminate the noise of an air pump, and some ppl have told me that under gravel filters are not to good for planted aquariums.

as for lighting I was thinking of using ccfl tubes, As I don't want the growth of the tank to get out of hand.

If there is anything that i have left out please feel free to comment and add. Also I am working on a bit of a budget but I'm willing to spend the cash on a more expensive item, if its gonna work out better in the long run.

If you want to see a doff looking person then go to a LPS and ask for a Otto. Some LPS never heard of them! ;)

    LOL @ Dane :D

Welcome Narkot... whatever you do, do not listen to the people at the lfs. Rather come here first as there are people here who really are experts on the matter.
