    Hi all

I am sure i am no the only fish lover with this issue.

I have a few power heads and pumps that have standed to vibrate and make to much noise for my liking.

How do you stop this or prevent this from happening.

    Thank you

Replace the rubber grommits and make sure there is no air in the power head its self.

I put a few tissues underneath my airpump.
Seemed to damped the vibrations and reduce the noise.

The airpump is resting on a surface.
I put some tissues underneath it to reduce the vibrations and therefore noise.

    Thanks guys

I will post a video soon so you guys can see. I have done all these fixes but its vibrating like mad. I saw a video where the dude used silicon oil. I will try that and let you guys know the results.

This is an internal water pump on the side glass

Check that the impeller shafts are OK, and that all the impeller blades are there, and nothing, stones, bits of plants, is stuck in there. Also see that the rubber end caps that seat on either side of the shaft are there and seated properly. Sometimes these things vibrate from the outset, probably cause its cheap Chinese made rubbish

If the shaft is worn, i replaced mine with knitting needles cut to size.

I will post a before and after video as well.

I have a completely dead pump that i am going to open and see if i can fix it as well.

I cant be the only one with this issue, I have had many pumps thrown away because of this.

    Holding thumbs.

I have fixed a friends tetratec canister filters that was also making a noise (vibrating of impeller). All this easy fix needs is for one to go and buy a cold drink of your choice just make sure you get a straw with. Take the straw and cut it open along the length. Cut the straw the length of the impeller shaft or just shy of it. Now put the piece of straw in between the shaft and the impeller. Put everything back together and this is where you enjoy the cold drink and enjoy your silent pump. @jakkals @lyndon

Awesome tip Donny! I used stainless steel welding rod in mine but the internal pump is still noisy. I will try the knitting needles and if the problem persists I will then just throw it in the dustbin.
