Anybody got tips / threads / good links on planted tank pruning?

I am planning on doing a spring trim tonight - but in the past this has always ended up with a re-scape :push:.

Anything from ground cover maintenance to cut and plant links will be appreciated.

    thx

Maybe get a sticky going on this topic?

10 hours of hang time and nobody has any good info on planted tank maintenance. Oh well. Will do what I normally do .. drain the tank - trim the plants - fill the tank - drain it again & re-scape.

Sorry i cant help you there dude, have you tried googling? From what i saw online, people prune/trim their plants just above where it branches, and this creates a "bushier" effect. but as i said my knowledge is min. So i stand to be corrected.

i can tell you nothing about aquatic plants, as i have not kept any worth trimming when i was a kid, and have only now started up with fish again.

    Sorry dude.

what doesn't make sense is, way do you drain the tank everytime? why not stick your hand in, with a scissor, and cut the plants at their nodes just like terrestrial plants? then let the cuttings either float up, or catch them with your other hand?

    http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/new-planted-aquariums/64612-how-prune.html perhaps?

Yeah - just did that Ferryman - hand scissor - while full and snip snip snip ..

The urge to prune usually happens at water change time - but today the idea was to do a better job than my normal way... must say to mow plants down like I would my lawn was way faster ...

Got this all done in super fast time - no real design in what I did - then again it is the spring trim - lets see what grows back.

@ Ferryman I got you a bag of Riccia and then some plant cuttings will drop it of at SGC in the morning

@ Carping sorry not enough Riccia this round but should be trimming again in 3 - 4 weeks will keep that for you

Yeap - done that Gillbert14 ... hope I did not kill anything.

Form one of the links posted "http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/new-planted-aquariums/64612-how-prune.html"

For stems plants just cut 1/3 or 1/2 of the plants, it is a good starting point for anyone that is new in to the hobby. - That was what I did a few minutes ago ..
