How to make a sump filter

    Hey guys. I am buying a new tank and have heard that a sump is a great method for filtration. I also read that you can put your heater in the sump so that you have no unattractive bits in your tank. Please could anyone tell me how a sump works and if the information I have read is true. Please tell me how to make an external sump filter. Thanks in advance.
