How to clean Filters before restup of tank Please help

    Hi All

    I have a aqua clear mini and a resun power head filter and i would like to know what is the best way to totally clean my filter units without using toxic solvents or stuff. I have had gold fish and koi in my tank and they are dirty buggers so my filters have taken a knock. any advise would be awsome as well i would like to know how to clean my tank before reset up.

    Do you want to keep the filters active?
    Take some tank water out, and syphon into a bucket.
    Then take the filter appart, and rinse each bit in the bucket, and then put back together.
    Whatever you do, don't user straight tap water as the chlorine will kill the bacteria.

    I wanna do a full clean as im going to replace all the media and sponge im taking about the actual head unit and the aqua clear mini body.

    In that case, use warm tap water.
    But stay away from chemicals.
    I have found that vinegar is usefull in loosening any buildup that doesn't come loose, but give a good rinse afterwards.

    Remember to let the filter reseed itself after reinstalling it. Don't put any fish in for a few days.
