So I have had two high tech tanks for nearly 7 months now but I’m looking to take on a big project and wherever I can save money I would like too so I was therefore wondering if there is a way for me to work out how much soil I will need

Yup. Find the surface area of the bottom of the aquarium in cm2, times that by the desired height of the substrate also in cm, and that will tell you how many millilitres of soil you need. Divide that by 1000 to get litres, and go from there. Usually best to get a bit more soil than expected though
