Hi guys, I've just been wondering, how much liters / ml of water is required for one shrimp?

Reason why I'm asking, I got a fish bowl for free, and I'm busy planning something to DIY a small filter / heater / light / hood in the bowl, and also using dirt and life plants...

Personally i hate fish bowls, because people cram gold fish and betas into the things, and almost all the lfs sells them...

then i thought by myself, i don't think keeping shrimp with filter etc in the bowl will be cruel, but i would first like to know how much water is required per shrimp, and weather they will thrive, but won't do it if the animals will suffer because of lack of space...

Please, don't bite my head off because i mentioned fish bowl, I'm trying to do a decent job of it without being cruel towards my shrimp.

How much water does the fish bowl hold?
Depending on where you do research, the minimum requirements vary.
According to some sources, a 4-5 litre bowl can house 2 shrimp, while a 10-12 litre desk tank can house 10-20.
A 40 litre is seen as the minimum for successful breeding, and could house up to about 100 - 150 shrimp, depending on filtration.

I think it holds about 4 litres of water, but will probably also try something to ad water volume outside the bowl, not to sure...

There are small under-gravel filters available for fish bowls.
Something like that with a small 50L air pump, and some black inert fine gravel should be OK to house a couple of shrimp.
Maybe add a miniature plastic moss ball for decoration, and provide the shrimp with somewhere to climb and hide.
