    Hey there...
I would just like to find out how many guppies I can keep in a 40 litre tank and what should the ratio between male and female be?

"Since this species breeds like rabbits, good ratio of males and females is 1:3."

"... at least 40 liters are required for about 10-12 Guppies."

Google are can like to be your friend. :)

    Hi bohtajp2

Every other website will say a different amount that you can keep per liter or gallon.

I keep my guppies at 1 guppy per 2-3 liters of water.

I agree with on the ratio of 1 male to 3 females. But if you buy trio's it is usually 1 male and 2 female. So I think that is also a safe ratio to keep them at.

I have one or two tanks with some guppies - ok all but 4 tanks have guppies - it happens. The ratio thing is for breeding - but if you are just keeping you will see that after month 3 you really have no control. As the number of fish, well that would depend on your filtration and plant density. Guppies live in filth (well they can ) but that is not the point - as long as the fish are swimming, not stuck to the top of the water due to a lack of O2 you should be good. Over feeding is the biggest danger ... nice thing about guppies, you probably do not need to run a heater in the tank most of the time, they will survive to about 15 - thrive above 20 - go boss in breeding above 22 and still be ok at 28 for a while.

Warning - guppies and MTS make good bedfellows.

I think your question has been well answered above, all I will say is that if you add 3 males with 9 females and enough cover for fry then you are soon going to have more guppies than you know what to do with

I have just counted 476..... when you move them from one tank to the next...... you let them out the net one by one and you are able to count them......
